Scimitar (shamshir) and sheath

Turkey, 18th–19th century

Steel blade and handguard, horn hilt. Leather-clad wooden sheath with decorative mounts. The blade, handguard, and sheath are decorated with gold (overlay). Persian-style curved blade (shamshir) with a Turkish hilt and sheath. Calligraphic inscription on the blade; the producer and owner are written on the upper section near the handguard.
